With their 30 enclaves - about half of all enclaves in the world - Baarle-Hertog (B) and Baarle-Nassau (NL) are absolute leaders. Baarle is the most unique enclave complex with 22 Belgian and 8 Dutch loose pieces of territory. A geographic puzzle for advanced players!

The 22 Belgian enclaves of Baarle-Hertog are completely surrounded by the Dutch Baarle-Nassau. Seven enclaves of Baarle-Nassau are located in the two largest Belgian enclaves. South of the national border there is still one Dutch enclave, in the Belgian mother country.

The many enclave boundaries run through streets, houses, even bedrooms. This results in the most bizarre situations. In Baarle it is actually quite common to share the bed and still sleep in another country. As special as this may sound, in Baarle juggling the border is everyday life!

The enclaves were numbered when the enclaves were officially raised to national borders in 1995. The 22 enclaves of Baarle-Hertog are numbered H (van Hertog) 1 to H22. The 8 enclaves of Baarle-Nassau are called N (van Nassau) 1 to N8.
